Lyle J. Gibson Sr., 85 - Elizabeth

Lyle J. Gibson Sr., 85, of Elizabeth, West Virginia, passed away Monday, March 30, 2009, at Ravenswood Care Center after an extended illness.

He was born August 21, 1923, in Creston, the son of the late Mamie Fought and Earnest E. Gibson. He was a World War II Army veteran, retired from E.I. DuPont as a mechanic, belonged to Local Union 168 of Marietta as a pipe fitter, a member of Burning Springs Lodge #132 AF & AM, member of VFW Post of Parkersburg and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, gardening and four-wheeling.

He is survived by his wife, Delorce Gibson; one son, Lyle "Joe" Gibson Jr. of Elizabeth; one nephew, Randall Prince of Marietta, Ohio; and one niece, Sandra Windgrove of Parkersburg.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Lloyd, Jewell, Doral and Ernest Gibson Jr.; one sister, Edith Prince; and one nephew, Herman Gibson Prince.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-7 p.m. Thursday at Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at a later date at K of P Cemetery of Elizabeth.
