WATER PROJECT RIGHT-OF-WAYS NEARING COMPLETION - Sped-Up Efforts Yielding Results

(03/28/2009)
Right-of-ways are being finalized for the Mt. Zion Public Service District's 21-mile $5.2 million dollar public water project.

Norma Collins, representing the PSD and Danielle Stevens, representing the Calhoun Commission, met with Calhoun commissioners Thursday to give an update on the right-of-ways.

They said only a half-dozen right-of-ways need to be processed before reaching an 80% threshold, the number required before putting the project out for bid.

The commissioners praised the workers efforts to get the project moving in a matter of weeks, following action by the commission to get it unstuck.

Mt. Zion PSD board members told the commission problems surfaced last year with the illness of the board's secretary-treasurer Wilma Mace, also stating that many of the right-of-ways were not in order because of problems with the board's attorney.

The project will serve about 150 residents in an area stretching from Russett and Sand Ridge to Rt. 16 south to Chloe.
