Middle School Counselor, Mary Lou Darczuk, reviewed results of the ACT Explore test, which was administered this past October to Calhoun 8th graders. On Wednesday, January 16, Mrs. Darczuk met with 8th grade students and their science teachers, Mrs. Baker and Mrs. Wagoner, during science class. The Explore is administered to all eighth grade students every October. The Explore assesses four core academic areas - English, math, reading and science reasoning. In addition, an interest inventory, needs assessment and future plans for education and career are investigated. Students were provided with a copy of the their test results on Wednesday and an opportunity to ask questions.

When compared with 8th graders across the nation Calhoun 8th grade students performed well. Overall, in examining Calhoun students' Composite scores, more than half of all 8th graders obtained scores which fell above the 50th percentile, above the national average.

If you haven't already done so, please review your child's test printout with your child. This may help with planning for high school course work. It will help your child to clarify his or her individual strengths and weaknesses and to then begin to link these abilities with careers options.
