MINNIE HAMILTON STAFF ATTEND LEGISLATIVE DAYS

Staff from Minnie Hamilton Health System was at the state capital last week to promote their services and meet with representatives. Staff members Barbara Lay, Barb McKown and Jim Sullivan set up a display Wednesday, and distributed Universal Medication Forms for West Virginia Primary Care Association Day.

The West Virginia Primary Care Association (WVPCA) is a non-profit membership organization composed of all the community-based, non-profit health centers throughout the state. The 2009 Legislative agenda included recognizing and highlighting the significant contribution that West Virginia's 34 Community Health Centers have made in establishing a statewide primary care system and meets the needs of all West Virginians regardless of insurance status or income.

The second day at the Legislature was devoted to the West Virginia Hospital Association. Minnie Hamilton provided lipid screenings and free blood pressure checks to those in the Capital building. Staff attending included Barbara Lay, Cindy Morgan, Kim Houchin, Jim Sullivan, Barb McKown, Mary Mullenax and Matt Kirby.

The West Virginia Hospital Association is dedicated to promoting a strong healthcare system in West Virginia that supports and improves the health of those served by our hospitals, as well as the economic condition of the state. The 2009 Legislative agenda included: ensuring fair and adequate Medicaid/PEIA funding and provider payments; maintain strong certificate of need program; enhance public access to date and increase accountability; support tobacco control efforts and others.

Each day, Governor Joe Manchin III shared with the members present his passion for quality health care. He stressed the importance of working together and working with the youth to decrease obesity in the state. Following the morning presentations, the staff was able to meet with Senators Jeffrey Kessler and Larry Edgell and House of Delegate member David Walker.
