Richard "Rick" D. Long, 53 - Elizabeth

Richard "Rick" D. Long, 53, of Elizabeth, West Virginia, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg, after an extended illness.

Born November 5, 1955, in Wirt County, he was the son of the late Burley and Bertha (Sims) Long. He was a 1974 graduate of Wirt County High School, was employed by Cabot Oil and Gas Corporation for 21 years as a gas measurement technician and was named Wirt County Fair Honorary Member in 2008. He loved farming and spending time with his boys. He was a member of the Elizabeth Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Kimberly (Sheppard) Long; three sons, Wesley, Kyle and Kory Long, all of Elizabeth; one brother, Glen (Barbara) Long of Palestine, WV; one sister, Pat Lambing of Williamstown, WV; and two nephews, Chris (Amber) Long of Elizabeth and Ian Sheppard of Sonoma, WV.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one infant brother, Glendon Lee Long; and one brother-in-law, Richard "Dick" Lambing.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 25 at Matheny Whited Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with the Rev. Mark McCloy officiating. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
