Rev. Leon B. Strickland, 80 - Spencer

The Rev. Leon B. Strickland, 80, of Spencer, W.Va., died March 19, 2009, at the Roane General Hospital, Spencer, after a long illness.

He was born Oct. 9, 1928, in Roane County, a son of the late Rev. Henry Bert and Rosa Moore Strickland. Leon was a loving husband and father and a minister for over 51 years, most recently at the Epling Chapel Church where he served as pastor for many years.

He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Linden Lodge 38 AF&AM, a member of the Scottish Rites, Charleston, and a member of the International Order of the Oddfellows. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by one daughter, Vickie Lynn Strickland of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one son, David Allen Strickland of Charleston; and one granddaughter, Kelly Nicole Sword of Nashville, Tenn.

In addition to his parents, Leon was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kathryn Schreckengost Strickland.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Danny Whited officiating. Burial will be in the Clover Cemetery with military graveside rites. Visiting hours are from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
