(03/20/2009)
STUDENT POINTS AIR-RIFLE - A 9-year-old Eastern Panhandle elementary student has been charged with assault.

The student allegedly pointed an air-pellet rifle at his school bus driver and 10 students on Tuesday.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Cpl. D.C. Tabler said the boy has also been charged with one count of terrorist acts.

He is being held in the Vicki Douglas Juvenile Center in Martinsburg on $15,000 bond.

Officials said the bus driver had disciplined the boy before dropping him off at his home, when student passengers noticed the youth pointing the rifle at them.

MOTEL HEIST - Kanawha County sheriff's deputies are looking for a man who robbed Smiley's Motel in Jefferson, Tuesday.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Department said the front desk clerk at the motel said a man with a revolver walked in about 4 a.m. and demanded money.

Deputy J.S. Shackleford II was on the scene of the robbery within two minutes, but the robber had already fled into the woods across the road.

BARBOUR MAN SHOT BY MUZZLELOADER - A Barbour County man was shot in the abdomen and died.

The Sheriff's Department says "The gun was a used muzzleloader that had recently been purchased over the Internet. When the gun was received, the owner was cleaning it and did not realize it was loaded. When the gun was "dry fired" it discharged, striking Mayhew in the abdomen."
