RECESSION WATCH : 10,000 West Virginians Lost Jobs In February

(03/17/2009)
The state's unemployment rate made a big jump in February.

The number of unemployed state residents rose by 10,200 for the month.

Currently about 60,000 West Virginians are receiving unemployment checks.

The government's statistical model for unemployment is based on workers who are currently receiving unemployment.

Once a worker quits receiving the check, they are no longer counted in Workforce's unemployment statistic.
