CALHOUN SCHOOL BOARD FIRES PLEASANT HILL TEACHER

(03/10/2009)
A 4th grade teacher at Pleasant Hill Elementary School was fired by the Calhoun Board of Education Monday evening, after the U. S. Attorney's Office in Clarksburg said she pled guilty to charges filed against her.

The board voted unanimously.

Carol Jarvis, 41, of Normantown, has been employed by Calhoun Schools since last August, according to Superintendent Roger Propst.

A newspaper account several weeks ago indicated Jarvis pled guilty to selling tobacco to an inmate at the Federal Corrections Institution in Gilmer County, where she was employed in 2005.

A news report said she faces up to 15 years in prison and $250,000 fines when sentenced before Judge Irene Keeley of Clarksburg in June, with indications she is entering into a plea agreement.

The official information says Jarvis "as a public official, did corruptly receive and accept something of value (United States currency) from an inmate at FCI Gilmer...payment induced her to introduce into prison and provide to an inmate, contraband."
