TWO DEAD IN RITCHIE COUNTY FIRE - Son Dies Trying To Rescue Mother

Tragedy has struck a Ritchie County community.

An elderly woman and her son died early today when their house burned at Pullman, southeast of Harrisville in Ritchie County.

Harrisville fire chief Dana Nutt told the Herald that "The woman's son exited the two-story house when he discovered it was on fire, but went back in to try a rescue his mother," both perished.

A third party was thought to be in the house, but officials said the male was staying at another residence.

The Ritchie County Sheriff's Department and the WV State Fire Marshal's office are investigating the cause of the blaze.

Chief Nutt said the call was received at 5:10 a.m., the Harrisville department was assisted by Pennsboro firefighters.

Nutt said there are no fire hydrants in the village.

The names of the deceased will be released following notification of next of kin.

The bodies are at the Raiguel Funeral Home in Harrisville.
