CCHS ALUMNI GROUP SEEKING WAYNE UNDERWOOD TROPHIES - Museum Open This Summer

(03/07/2009)

Calhoun High's alumni president Loyd "Sonny" Wright is in search of lost trophies from football coach Wayne Underwood's era.

"Unfortunately, many of the trophies and mementos have been lost, particularly since the old school was closed," Wright said.

Highly-acclaimed Wayne Underwood coached the team from 1946 to 1962.

Wright said the alumni group hopes to have the Wayne Underwood Museum open this summer for the 22nd CCHS Alumni Reunion on July 4th.

The second story of the museum has been turned over to the CCHS Boosters, who will be renting chairs in the enclosed box for comfortable viewing of local football games.

The space is heated and sealed from the elements.

Rental money is a fund-raiser for athletic boosters.

"I'm hopeful we can come up with some old trophies, plaques and mementos from the Underwood years," Wright said.
