| Times Record 1933/Spencer WV The people of this section are very much elated over the prospects of getting a Class A road up the West Fork. The farmers are so much interested that materially all have agreed to give free right-of-ways. Some citizens have been in Charleston consulting with the State Road Commission where it looks like we will get four miles of good road next year. Some of our residents will be more grateful for the road than the $40,000 more tax money they will pay for the County High School. Well, "There is some good in the worst of us and some bad in the best of us." Messrs. W. H. Brannon, J. Conrad, D. E. Parsons, J. K. Hamrick and Roscoe Summers were in Minnora Saturday to the meeting of the Board of Education. The people are trying to get a consolidated school at Orma. They think the chances are pretty good next year. Good schools and good roads go together. Better people, better churches and better government, usually follow good roads. E. O. Conley has sold his store at Orma to G. Brannon, who has moved it to the mouth of Crummins Creek. This leaves only one merchant for Orma - the old standby W. A. Stalnaker and Son. who is always fair and just with the people, and handles everything they need. H. H. Bennington, who has been working on Mr. Brannon's new store building, is now working on his farm. Uncle Henry is never idle. He always finds work to do, even when many of our younger men are idle and loafing. Messrs. Russell Parsons, E. White, Robert Parsons and Andrew Parsons have gone to the city this summer, leaving the farmers around here to wonder how they are going to get their harvesting done. |
