Walter Edward "Emory" Smith, 87 - Grantsville

Walter Edward "Emory" Smith, 87 years of age, went to be with our Lord, February 17, 2009. He was in the Extended Care Unit at Minnie Hamilton Health System in Grantsville, West Virginia, at the time of his death. He would have been 88 years of age February 23, 2009.

He was born in Spencer, WV, in 1921, the son of Mont Edward Smith and Hattie Lenore Marshall Smith. He had one brother Robert Kent Smith who died a few days after birth. Emory and his wife Mary Louise Wholaver Smith had one son Carl Edward Smith who passed away with a heart attack at the age of 42, in Fort Myers, Florida.

Emory was a loving and devoted husband and father. Carl Edward and wife Peggy Sue Booher Smith had two sons, Curtis Edward Smith and Bradley Dyer Smith. Curtis and wife Jennifer have one son named Zachery. Bradley and wife Adriana have a daughter named Arielle. The grandchildren all live in Cape Coral, Florida.

Emory worked with his father for years as Oil & Gas producers. The business is still in the family. Employees are Eddie Yoak, Evelyn Yoak and Ron Summers. All have over 27 years of service and two new employees, Brian Ritchie and Rob Parsons. All are excellent workers.

Emery was active in Knotts Memorial Methodist Church and community work and had lots of friends. He also was a member of Nemesis Temple in Parkersburg, WV, and Eureka Lodge #40 AF & AM, in Grantsville, WV, and the Charleston Consistory of Scottish Rite Bodies.

Services will be held at Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville on Sunday, February 22 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Mary Ellen Zimmer officiating. Visitation will be one hour before service. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites.
