The Creston area was on the receiving end of the wind and rain that caused death and damage all the way from Oklahoma. Locally trees went down and power went out. One building, housing a working sawmill was destroyed and an add on room to a trailer over on the Munday road was completely destroyed. Siding, roofs and small structures "just went away". Barns in Roane & Calhoun County were destroyed.

A downed power line caused a fire near the Julia Ray residence and there were downed power lines on top of Creston hill. Many local residents were without electricity until Saturday afternoon. A crew from North Carolina assisted in restoring power locally.

Rev. Carlos Nutter filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. church.

Jody Goff was calling on Charles & Euell Russell. Euell was also consulting with the medical staff at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center.

Rod Lynch was having some work done on his chariot.

Rod's buddy, Mr. Tanner, got himself caught in another "Tanner Trap". This time he got hung up in the parking lot at the Foodmart in Elizabeth which must have been really embarrassing.

While it is generally conceded that real estate topped out in July 2006, the wizards in the State Tax Department are increasing real estate taxes. Perhaps the fat cats down there can be caught up and made to personally help stressed taxpayers pay their increased county real estate taxes. Visits by taxpayers at their posh homes might get their attention. Surely they would give up their vacations at Myrtle Beach and Cancun to help W. Va. taxpayers.

The big-eared one "forgot" about his campaign promises and had the stoolies in the congress approve the big "stimulus" bill without even having time to read it. To stimulate jobs taxpayers will now pay for forced abortions in China and elsewhere and now there is no work requirement for welfare - it is again an entitlement. Apparently that is part of 'sharing the wealth'. Some work so others can lay around and breed, occasionally having 8 at one time.

It was indicated that Roane County may get some new bridges as part of the 'stimulus plan' and Harry Reid will get a new train from Disney Land to Vegas. The environmental impact study will take five years and, of course, it isn't a pork project. All medical records will be kept in one place on a computer and doctors will have to check with the central administrator before determining the type of treatment that will be allowed.

One of the folks on NPR (the government radio station funded by taxpayers) compared the "messiah" who is bringing hope and change to Cuba's 'Fido' Castro. Such is a scary thing as freedom there no longer exists, let along the Communist economic disaster.

Mr. & Mrs. W. H. Schenerlein & son were visiting his parents in Parkersburg.

P. E. Graham is home after a sojourn with the V. A. Medical folks. Local residents have had various type of flu type sicknesses.

A number of local residents were attending to business at Nobe.

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude oil rose to $31.50/bbl. The Roane County court house is busy with abstractors who are working on 3-D seismic projects and proposed new wells.

Chesapeake indicated that some of the folks based down at the Mouth of the Elk would be moved to the new Jane Lew office while a new office would be opened in Pennsylvania. The company permitted a new horizontal Marcellus in Marshall County while they and Equitable permitted more horizontal Huron wells in McDowell, Mingo & Wayne Counties.

BRC Operating, the outfit that ended up with the leases that J. Howard Bass (Acadian) acquired on the former Westvaco properties has permitted a vertical Marcellus well on Mead-Westvaco property in Greenbrier County.

Turkeys have been doing lots of talking, especially on the warm days.
