Nioma Jean McCelland, 72, of New Philadelphia, Ohio passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009, in Union Hospital at Dover. Born April 27, 1936, in Shock, WV, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow and Gay Greathouse Norman, both originally of Gilmer County.

After completing her education, Jean worked at numerous clothing stores throughout the community. She was a talented crafter, co-owning Patches and Pandemonium for numerous years with her sister, Mary Kohler.

On a snowy night playing cards, she met her husband of 48 years, Terry McClelland. Together, Jean and Terry enjoyed spending time restoring their Heritage Home and traveling in their retirement.

Anyone in her family that was able, enjoyed a trip to Myrtle Beach each year where they would relax and enjoy each other's company. Most importantly, Jean loved being a wife, sister, mother and friend.

Jean was blessed growing up with her seven brothers and sisters, Nancy Craig Moss of Vienna, WV, Mary (Russ) Kohler of Sugarcreek, Connie Gallager of Dover, Ed (Linda) Norman of New Philadelphia, Jack (Judy) Norman of Sugarcreek, John (Betsy) Norman, Joe (Kris) Norman of New Philadelphia; brother-in-law, Mark (Susan) McClelland of Hanford, CA; sister-in-law, Rebecca (Doug) Spade of Frazeysburg, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss their Aunt Jean.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Michelle Lee McClelland, whom they tragically lost on Oct. 2, 1989, at the age of 22.

A memorial service for Jean's family was held Jan. 25, 2009 at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home Chapel.

Jean's cremated remains will be buried in Evergreen Burial Park beside her daughter. Jean's family requests memorial contributions be directed to the American Lung Ass., 6100 Rockside Woods Pkw., Independence, O. 44131
