LKACF MAKES GRANT IN HONOR OF CALHOUN'S DAN MCDONALD

(02/18/2009)

The Board of the Little Kanawha Area Community Foundation (LKACF) recently recommended a grant to the LKACF Scholarship Fund in memory of founding Board member Dan McDonald. (pictured left)

LKACF was able to recommend this grant due to Community Foundation Board trainings Dan had attended during his lifetime.

This grant will go towards the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation challenge grant awarded to LKACF to establish a new general-purpose scholarship fund that will benefit students in Calhoun and Wirt Counties.

To successfully complete this challenge, LKACF must raise $15,000. Once this goal is met, the Benedum Foundation will match it with $5,000 that will be immediately awarded as scholarships to students in Calhoun and Wirt Counties. The first scholarships will be awarded this spring.

"Dan was an important and respected member of this community, and was very active with the Community Foundation," said Jim Bennett, Chair of the LKACF Board. "The Board felt it was appropriate to honor Dan's memory by supporting, in his name, this scholarship that will benefit students from Calhoun and Wirt Counties for generations to come."

Donations of any size can be made to this scholarship, and can be made in memory or in honor of a loved one.

Donations may be sent to LKACF, P.O. Box 944, Elizabeth, WV 26143. LKACF is an affiliate of the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation, and all donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Sarah Holt, LKACF Representative, can be contacted for information or with any questions by calling 304.428.4438 or by e-mail at sarah.holt@pacfwv.com.
