GILMER CABLE CUSTOMERS GET REPRIEVE

(02/07/2009)
A Florida-based TV cable operator told the state Public Service Commission yesterday it has decided not to turn off service to its Gilmer County subscribers.

Windjammer has 19 customers in Gilmer.

The company informed the PSC in January it would suspend its Gilmer County operation on February 17, when broadcast transmissions were to switch from analog to digital.

Windjammer Communication's has about 2,658 customers served by 19 other rural cable systems.

It's unclear what is happening to those operations.

The former Time-Warner systems are old and in need of repair, the company said.
