South Harrison had used a "chaser" defense to keep Calhoun's Zach Moore from getting the ball and it had worked.

The Hawks were joyous early in the fourth quarter when Calhoun's point guard Kyle Keesler fouled out of the game.

Without Keesler the Hawks reasoned Calhoun would have an almost impossible time of getting the ball to the Red Devils' high-scoring junior.

But just when the Hawks' joy was at a peak something happened to ruin things -- Moore moved to his old position. His old position was point guard, which he played as a freshman. So instead of the Hawks using a "chaser" defense to deny Moore the ball Moore had the ball to begin with. And that proved to be a problem for South Harrison.

The result was the Red Devils grabbed to lead on a three-point goal from Daniel Sims and never looked back as Moore scored 10 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth period.

The win was the second straight for the Red Devils and moved them to 4-10 on the season marking the most wins in a season since the 2004-05 season.

The game was close throughout with Calhoun holding a small lead until South Harrison, 3-8, tied the score at the end of three, 27-27.

The Hawks actually took a couple of leads in the fourth period before Sims came in off the bench to hit the go-ahead shot.

Calhoun maintained the lead but South Harrison did have one final chance when the Red Devils suffered a turnover with 7.9 seconds remaining. But the Hawks were unable to get off a shot.

Moore led Calhoun with 20 points while Justin Gerwig and Chuck Kendall added eight each. Sims had four off the bench while Keesler added two and Cai Clothier one for the Red Devils. Anthony Richards and Tyler Bennett both played but did not score.

One area the Red Devils succeeded royally was off the boards where they out rebounded the taller Hawks 33-24 with Moore, Gerwig and Clothier getting eight apiece and Kendall adding six.

South Harrison won the battle of winless junior varsity teams by a 52-22 count. The Hawks came into the game with an 0-8 mark while Calhoun was 0-11.

Andy Merrill led the Hawks with 14.

Calhoun was led by CJ Myers with six. Anthony Richards added five, Tyler Bennett and Brandon Richards four each, Sims two and "Double Oh Joe" Overbaugh one. Quentin "Q Dawg" Murphy, Greg Myers, Stewart Fitzwater and Noah "Mad Dog" Sweeney played but did not score.

Calhoun returns to action Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader against visiting Clarksburg Notre Dame. Game time is 1 p.m.
