SMS PARTICIPATES IN WV DUALS TOURNEY

Thirty-two school teams participated in the WV Duals Wrestling Tournament in Parkersburg, Friday and Saturday Jan. 30th and 31st.

Spencer Middle School was (4-5) for the weekend with 28 pins, wrestling 9 duals rounds in pools with 18 middle school teams.

Middle school teams wrestled at Parkersburg South High School, and the 14 high school teams competed at Parkersburg High School. Several teams could not attend due to bad weather conditions.

Team wins include Spencer (27) Calhoun (12); Spencer (42) Jackson (33); Spencer (48) Ripley B (27); Spencer (54) Hamilton (24).

Losses include Edison (60) Spencer (30); Liberty (69) Spencer (16); Hurricane (51) Spencer (36); Eastern Greenbrier (45) Spencer (33); Edison-B (47) Spencer (36).

Individually, undefeated was Sam Lawson (9-0) at 171# with 5 pins; John Ash at 145# and Dillon Clarkson at 84# were both (7-2) with 3 pins; Mikeal Free (7-2) at 190# with 2 pins; Joe Copley (6-3) at 123# with 4 pins; Eli Kennedy (6-3) at 155# with 3 pins; Caleb Starcher (6-3) at Heavyweight with 1 pin; Sean Blosser (4-5) at 128# with 2 pins; Josh Richards (4-5) at 90# with 1 pin; Scotty Gibson (3-6) at 135#; Ely Shreve (2-7) at 110# with 1 pin; Matt Starcher (1-4) at 116# with 1 pin, missing several matches on Friday with an injury.

For the Spencer-B team, Doug Smith (3-2) at 155# with 2 pins; Taylor Lee was (0-2) at 190#, dropping out of the competition due to an injury; and Tyler Lee (0-6) at 145#.

On deck, Spencer Middle's last competition this season is Saturday Feb. 7, at the CWVAC Conference Tournament at Wirt.
