COURT REDUCES BOND FOR MEN ASSOCIATED WITH CALHOUN BANK ROBBERY - Denmark Enters Into Plea Agreement

(01/14/2009)
Two Calhoun men accused as accessories to the hold-up of Calhoun Banks in Arnoldsburg appeared in Calhoun Circuit Court Monday before Judge David Nibert, with Shelly Morris DeMarino representing the state.

The court set bond for Richard A. Starcher, 29, of Spencer at $20,000, provided the accused remains on home confinement.

Bond for Beau Allen Collins, 26, of Arnoldsburg was set at $10,000, provided he is placed on home confinement.

Both men had been on $75,000 bond.

25-year-old Ohio resident Darin Stephen McClain was arrested in Akron, Ohio in connection with the robbery.

It is not clear if the bank robbery charges have actually been filed against McClain, but he is being held in an Akron area jail on other charges, reportedly waiting for extradition to Calhoun County for bank robbery.

McClain went into Speedy Mart in Arnoldsburg requesting the cost of cigarettes, according to store employees, after which he walked to the nearby bank, handing them a note and demanding cash.

An arrest warrant indicates McClain took about $16,000, some of which was reportedly recovered.

He was caught on video surveillance cameras at both businesses.

- William Seth Denmark of Beech and Spencer appeared before the court with a plea agreement which results in a concealment of children charge.

The original charges said Denmark and Thomas John McCullough of Orma allegedly refused to release three Calhoun females, ages 16, 14 and 10, after being in their custody for about 12 hours, according to then, Sheriff Carl Ballengee.

- A case against Christopher Todd Smith of Grantsville, related to a plea agreement in a drug case, was continued to March, with the appointment of a new attorney.

- Kenneth J. Rush of Crummies Creek, facing charges of sexual abuse, continued to March.
