Welcome 2009. I used to dwell on the all the wrong things each time we rang in a new year. I would be upset about the mistakes I made during the previous year. Now, I don't' look back anymore. What's the point? No one can change what's behind them, but, they can pave a road that lies before them. Wow, that sounded really philosophical didn't it? I am not going to get quoted by Reader's Digest, but, I gave it a shot. As far as resolutions go, I don't make any.

I think as we were all growing up, we were told that resolutions were necessary on New Years. However, if one is not truly ready for changes when those resolutions are made, they are destined to fail. I feel that adjustments can be made any time of the year; I think one must have 100% of their heart and soul in it in order to be successful. For example, it wasn't on New Years that I made the decision to lose weight. Unfortunately, it took a lot of bad things to point me in the right direction. But, I knew I would not be successful until I made peace with myself. I can tell you that losing weight at age 20 or so is a heck of a lot easier that trying to do it at 40. (Oh gosh, did I just say my age out loud?)

I guess what this all amounts to is that one has 365 opportunities to make a change. What if some of those resolutions don't work out? Well, so what? There is no need to get wrinkles and everything that keeps cosmetic surgeons in business over stuff that even the best of efforts could not change. So, what is my deal for 2009? Well, I am just going to continue to keep an open heart, open mind and be true to myself. I will handle life's little curve balls as they come. I don't know if I will be batting 1000, but, I will know that I gave it 100%.

For all those American Idol junkies out there, the first program is next Tuesday night. All of us at the Hair Studio are true Idol freaks and we are looking forward to the new season. We are curious to see how the new judge works out with the show. We hope it's not going to turn into The View. That program was totally destroyed because none of the hosts could share their view without a cat fight. In my opinion, it has proved that a large paycheck often turns people into large idiots.

It has been noted that there are two calves missing from the lower pasture (or whatever it is called). According to my sources, the calves have moved on to the World of Saran Wrap and Cut-Rite. However, their spirits will be in greener pastures. I wonder if it is true that the grass is greener on the other side?

The kids have enjoyed another day off of school. For some reason, someone felt that Christmas break wasn't long enough. Apparently, the decision-maker doesn't have kids or at least none like mine. My boys take every opportunity to drive their mother insane. They especially take great pleasure in torturing me in public. I know I personally enjoy it when Avery decides to throw a fit on the floor of the grocery store. I have to give him credit; he does give it 100%. No half-way tantrums for him.

It is been rumored that the Taylor Farm will be housing Big Daddy Bovine from the Weston area. I guess the Ladies of the Pasture Club needed something else to do besides graze and get in my yard. My yard will not be nearly as entertaining when BDB arrives for his dream vacation. The Ladies do need to make it clear right from the start that he is not in charge. They also need to stress that it would be in his best interest to stay out of the way of the blue Explorer. Otherwise, he will be heading back to Weston on a meat hanger with the Ford Logo stamped on his forehead.

In closing, I wish great things for everyone in 2009. I also leave you with my pick of the week, "Lesson in Leavin" by Jo Dee Messina.
