| Verdon Price Boone, 87, of Florence, Arizona, formerly of Calhoun County, West Virginia, passed away January 4, 2009 in Casa Grand, Arizona.
Born July 31, 1921 in Calhoun County, he was a son of the late Vernando and Lilly Price Boone. He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII where he was awarded the Purple Heart and was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was a former employee of Union Carbide Company and had worked in the copper mining industry in Arizona, where he resided for the past 44 years.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Betty Swartz of Moundsville, WV; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Verle Virginia Kendall Boone who died in 1978; one son, Richard Verdon Boone; and his second wife Ilene Boone.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 11 at Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville. Rev. John Vannoy will officiate. Entombment will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens in Parkersburg, WV. Military graveside rites will be held by the Spencer American Legion Post.
