JEFFREY FACING MULTIPLE CHARGES IN DRIVE-BY SHOOTING

(12/24/2008)
A 25-year-old Calhoun man is in trouble over shooting into a Cabot Station residence and a nearby car last March.

State Police have filed a criminal complaint in the drive-by shooting against Matthew David Jeffery of Mt. Zion. He is being charged with wanton endangerment.

Central Regional Jail says Jeffrey is also charged with obstructing an officer and destruction of property.

Police say Jeffery's shot toward the residence of Perry Richards three times, apparently using a 12-gage shotgun.

The complaint says Richards was asleep on his couch when he was awakened by the shots, and was "struck by debris."

It says police went to Stutler Ridge following the shooting incident to discover a car stuck in a field, meeting the description of a vehicle in the drive-by shooting.

The investigation linked gun shells from the Cabot Station scene to the vehicle on Stutler Road, in which Jeffrey was an occupant.

The incident, according to the criminal complaint, says the shooting was motivated by a conflict between Perry Richards' son and Matt Jeffrey, related to a girlfriend.

Jeffrey had earlier been involved in a shooting incident on Yellow Creek, where he shot his half-brother following a conflict.
