ANNE BARTH RETURNS TO WASHINGTON

(12/19/2008)
Anne Barth, whose family is well-connected to Calhoun, has rejoined U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd's staff as state director after losing her bid for Congress against Shelly Moore Capito.

Barth failed to carry Calhoun receiving 1,183 votes to Capito's 1,240.

Capito defeated Barth with 57 percent of the vote to 43 percent. Capito received 147,334 votes to Barth's 110,819.

The 51-year-old Charleston resident gave up the post in January to run against Republican Capito.

She had served as Byrd's state director since 1992 and had been an aide to the West Virginia Democrat for 21 years.

Calhouners will remember her schoolteacher grandmother, Louise McDonald of Grantsville, and her mother, Nancy McDonald Street.
