SWAT TEAM CALLED - It was a tense situation in Kanawha County when a standoff ended with the SWAT team storming a home.

It happened in the decommissioned town of Jefferson, long known for its illegal gambling and prostitution activities.

Deputies were called to a home where a woman had been grazed by a bullet, Thursday morning.

The woman was taken to the hospital, but four other people barricaded themselves inside the home.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Department special response unit surrounded the home and staged a standoff until dawn's light.

Police launched tear gas into the building and stormed the structure.

No shots were fired.

Two men and two women were taken into custody without further injury.

ANOTHER DONUT SHOP ROBBERY - Two people were robbed at the Donut Connection in Kanawha City early Thursday.

Police say a black male, with a medium build, 5'10" and 180 pounds came in the back door of the restaurant and pointed a gun at two people.

They said he had one of the victims tie up the other with a piece of cord he brought with him.

He then forced the other man to pry open the office door with a crow bar.

The suspect kicked the tied-up victim and threw a trash can at his head while waiting to get into the office, Police said.

He took what money he could and left. Police searched with the a K9 unit.

CHARLESTON WOMAN CUT - A woman was cut on the arm Wednesday evening following an incident on Charleston's West Side.

Molly Nicole Thornton, 19, was cut after she and Richard Lawson Moss, 35 of Charleston, began fighting at a residence, according to police.

Thornton yelled for her 16-year-old brother, who began fighting with Moss. Police said the juvenile had a gun and fired one round that didn't hit anyone.

Moss and the 16-year-old fought for possession of the gun while Thornton tried to break up the fight.

During the fight, she fell through a window, causing a large cut to her arm.

Police said she thought she was shot.

Police tracked down Moss and found two handguns in his pockets.

Press reports said during the arrest, police were forced to shoot an aggressive pit bull that was growling and preparing to attack the officers.

Thornton was taken to a local hospital.

Moss is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, and the juvenile is charged with wanton endangerment.
