SPENCER MIDDLE WINS 3RD PLACE AT WIRT DUALS

There were 7 school teams participating in the Wirt County Middle School Duals, on Saturday Dec. 6, 2008. All of the A, B, and C-team wrestlers were split up into 10 separate teams. It was a split duals format, like Spencer's own home tournament, with 5 teams each in Pool A and Pool B.

Participating schools included Clay, Point Pleasant A & B, Ritchie, Sissonville, Spencer, and Wirt. Spencer Middle brought home the 3rd place team award.

Individually, Spencer had 10 wrestlers in the finals at the end of the day.

Competing in the championship finals:

1st at 155#, John Ash, 5-0 for the day
1st at 171#, Sam Lawson, 5-0 for the day
2nd at 84#, Kenneth Kudrick, 4-1 for the day
2nd at 123#, Joe Copley, 4-1 for the day
2nd at 190#, Mikeal Free, 4-1 for the day
2nd at Hwy, Caleb Starcher, 4-1 for the day

Competing in the consolation finals:

3rd at 102#, Jacob Maldonado, 4-1 for the day
3rd at 155#, Eli Kennedy
4th at 90#, Dillon Clarkson, 3-2 for the day
4th at 95#, Josh Richards, 3-2 for the day

Also participating were 78# R.D. Monaghan, 102# Trent Lanier, 110# Daniel Carr, 110# Brandon McCune, 110# Preston Metzger, 116# Matt Starcher, 128# Sean Blosser, 145# Tyler Lee, 145# Scotty Gibson, 171# Doug Smith, 171# Caije Nichols, and assisting were Tayler Lee who is sidelined with an injury, and manager Riley White.

On deck, Spencer Middle's next competition is Saturday Dec. 13, at the Wahama White Falcon Classic.
