STATE POLICE SHOOT MAN IN WALTON STORE PARKING LOT

(12/02/2008)
WALTON, Roane County - West Virginia State Police say they had to shoot a man when he refused to get out of his car and started driving toward them.

That man is in critical condition in a Charleston hospital.

He is reportedly from Clendenin.

The incident happened Monday night at Huffman's Store at the intersection of US 119 and Ambler Ridge Road, between Walton and Clendenin.

Police say they recognized the suspect from a warrant issued last week as they approached the vehicle in the store parking lot.

They say the suspect refused orders to exit the vehicle and began driving toward the officers.

That's when one trooper opened fire, striking the suspect in the head.

The suspect was transported by HealthNet to CAMC General in Charleston.

Three passengers in the vehicle have reportedly been arrested. His name has not been released.

State Police say the suspect ran from officers last week during an earlier incident.
