PHONE NUMBER UPDATE: HIGH-SPEED INTERNET SERVICE GETS BOOST IN CALHOUN

(11/16/2008)
Note: Some callers were told the service was not available here, which is not correct. You need to call 1-888-392-5323.

High-speed Internet service is getting an adrenaline boost in Calhoun, according to computer professional Heath Weaver.

Frontier phone customers in Calhoun who have been waiting to get DSL could be in line for the service.

Lots of people out in the 'boonies' of Calhoun and surrounding areas have wanted to get DSL, but couldn't, because they simply lived too far away from the nearest DSL station.

"Well it appears that all of that has just changed." said Weaver.

Frontier is now supporting some new hardware, OSD xDSL with AdrenaLine line conditioning units.

What does this mean?

Not to get too technical, it means that where you could not get DSL before due to either noise on your lines at a far distance, or due 'to low' of a DSL signal due to being too far away, the AdrenaLine line conditioner combined with the latest Speedstream xDSL units, have better reception of the DSL signal, as well as a more powerful feedback for attenuation than the normal DSL modems used by most people who already have DSL in this area. Simply put, it just works! And frontier gives you wireless capabilities to boot.

A more in depth explanation...The AdrenaLine setup is composed of 2 parts, 1 part at the DSLAM stations/units and the line conditioners at the subscriber end point. The AdrenaLine conditioners boost DSLAM performance, DSLAM = A 'Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer' (DSLAM, often pronounced dee-slam) allows telephone lines to make faster connections to the Internet. Adrenaline itself is a network device, located in the telephony exchanges of the service providers, that connects multiple customer Digital Subscriber Lines (DSLs) to a high-speed Internet backbone line using multiplexing techniques. By placing remote DSLAMs at locations remote to the telephone company's central office, telephone companies provide DSL service to locations previously beyond effective range, and with the new AdrenaLine conditioners at the end points (homes), that range reaches even further.

AdrenaLine conditioners are analog devices that improve available bandwidth through noise filtering and signal amplification. AdrenaLine tunes its internal circuitry to compensate for distance, wire gauge and other plant variables, and conditions the DSL line in both directions to maximize rate and reach. Noise filtering helps mitigate cross-talk effects, improve signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR), and minimize code violations. By placing AdrenaLine midway between the DSLAM and furthest CPE, minimal power is required, and negligible disturbance is imposed on adjacent pairs.

Many people who have not been unable to get DSL have tried to boost their speed by getting into the Satellite dish world, like Dish Network, Direct Way, Hughes net, etc. Only to find out later that the satellite speed was not so speedy after-all, and that rain/snow storms and cloudy weather, or a being located in a valley location or even having a tree line blocking the signal would either slow down the connection to that of their old 56/28k modem (or many times slower), or to lose connection completely. This was like a 'shot in the foot' to many people who paid BIG money to get these units and pay for the expensive service. I've seen people ready to start shooting they were so mad at their satellite provider.

Frontier's new AdrenaLine units 'may' just get you online FAST (without you wanting to shoot anyone later).

I'm not saying that 'everyone can get DSL now', I'm sure (positive) that many very remote locations may still have problems that will prevent them from using this new setup, again due to location and line quality. But The AdrenaLine units will at least expand the area that Frontier now covers.

So if you couldn't get DSL before, call frontier and ask them if you can get it now, and be sure to mention the AdrenaLine add-on package.

There is an extra setup fee for AdrenaLine at this point in time, but it's still much much cheaper than a dish that you will want to throw at someone. Sorry dish guys, but maybe it's time you lower the prices.

I've seen 'first hand' with my own eyes that this new package is just as fast as standard DSL. Check it out!
