250 ATTEND FUN & LEARNING DAY

(11/10/2008)

By Jean Simers

The second 2008-2009 Saturday Fun and Learning Day sponsored by Heads Up, GEAR UP and the Parent-Educator Resource Center was held Saturday, October 25th at Calhoun Middle-High School with breakfast served to all participants.

The day was a Halloween theme with lots of children and their parents dressed for the occasion.

There was over 250 people in attendance on Saturday with the following parents winning door prizes: Kim Riggs, fall wreath; Sheila Schoolcraft and Stacy Hickman, welcome mats; Alicia Jones, gift certificate from the Koffee Kup; Loretta Scott, gift certificate from the Y Restaurant; and Mark Boggs, Steve Roberts, Shyrick Schoolcraft and Shirley Vanhoose winning $25 gift certificates donated by WalMart of Spencer.

The next Saturday Fun and Learning Day will be November 15th with a speaker from Amber View talking to the parents about the program. There will be registration tables for parents to register their child if they have not already done so. A Thanksgiving dinner will be catered by the Middle School Athletic Boosters.

Parents voted on the Spring trip location - parents and children who attend five of the eight sessions are eligible for the trip to Kennywood in May 2009.

If you have questions - contact Jean Simers, Heads Up Coordinator at 354-7595.
