KINGWOOD'S BRONZE MEMORIAL PLANT CLOSING - US Job Loss 250,000 In October

(11/08/2008)
Declining sales of bronze memorials will force more than 100 Kingwood workers into the unemployment lines.

They will join over one million workers who have lost their jobs in 2008, with a 250,000 loss in October.

The longtime bronze plant, Matthews International, will be phased out over the next year.

Preston County Commissioner Vicki Cole says the cuts are a huge blow to the community because some entire families are employed by the plant.

Several employees are blaming cheap foreign imports.

Matthews manufactures products used in the cemetery and funeral home industries.
