Calhoun players Tessa Batten, Amber Wilford, Photo courtesy of Patty Haught Submitted by Kelley Houchin The CHS Lady Red Devil Volleyball team has advanced through the semi-final round of the Class A, Region II, Section I Tournament and will play the #1 tournament seed Doddridge County Lady Bulldogs tonight in the Sectional Championship at 6 p.m. at South Harrison High School. Both Calhoun and Doddridge will advance to the Region II Tournament to be held on Saturday, November 8 beginning at noon at South Harrison High School. Opponents for Calhoun and Doddridge will not be known until Friday but will be the top two teams from Region II, Section II which includes East Hardy, Paw Paw, Tygarts Valley, Pendleton County and Moorefield. Calhoun, the #3 tournament seed, defeated #6 seeded Clay Battelle on Tuesday evening by scores of 25-7, 25-12, and 25-19. Tessa Batten led all scorers with 13 points, 3 aces. Also scoring: Jordan Mace 12, 1 ace; Ashley Houchin 7, 2 aces; Amber Wilford 7, 1 aces; Savannah Church 4, 3 aces and Hannah Wilson 3, 1 ace. Setting: Houchin was 45/46 with 17 assists. Hitting: Batten 16/17, 7 kills; Church 10/12, 5 kills; Wilford 7/7, 4 kills; Mace 2/2, 1 kill. Wednesday evening Calhoun battled #2 seeded Trinity through five games to claim match victory by scores of 25-16, 12-25, 25-23, 24-26, and 15-8. Savannah Church led Calhoun's scoring with 14 points, 6 aces. Also scoring for Calhoun: Amber Wilford 12, 2 aces; Ashley Houchin 11, 3 aces; Tessa Batten 11, 2 aces; Jordan Mace 3 and Rochelle Gerwig 2. Setting: Houchin 84/86 with 36 assists. Hitting: Batten 33/34, 14 kills; Wilford 19/20, 10 kills; Church 13/15, 5 kills; Mace 11/14, 5 kills; Hannah Wilson 7/7, 2 kills.
