WIRT MAKING E-911 ADDRESSING PROGRESS - Walker-Petroleum Done

(11/04/2008)
One hundred sixty-one structures in the Walker and Petroleum zip code areas of Wirt County will be the sixth group to receive their 911 physical addresses.

The 911 Addressing and Mapping Office reported that the postal conversion is complete for Walker as well as Petroleum.

Though the postal conversion only includes those receiving their mail through rural route delivery, all structures located in these zip code areas have been addressed.

The 911 Advisory Board will provide each addressable structure with one sign free of charge, as long as the funding permits.

The Board will not be responsible for installing the sign.

The vertical signs will be green with approximately three-inch numbers on both sides. The signs are made of a durable material that has a reflective quality so they will be easily visible.

When the signs have been received, the 911 Addressing and Mapping Office will post a notice in the Wirt County Journal stating when your sign can be picked up.

The 911 Addressing and Mapping Office asks that you please do not stop by the office until the assigned time for your zip code as it is posted in the Wirt Journal.

Once you see the notice in the paper, you will need to visit the 911 Addressing and Mapping Office. At that time, you will need to verify your name, pre-911 address, telephone number and home photo.

If you reside in a structure you do not own, you will also have to provide the owner's name, address, and telephone number.

Likewise if you are an owner, but someone else uses your structure, you will need to provide their name, mailing address, and telephone number.

You will then sign a form stating you provided the necessary information, received your sign and instructions on placing your sign.

The 911 Office will be updating the verified information and ensuring that each structure's telephone number is properly routed to the appropriate 911 dispatch.

The 911 Office has signs available for Wirt County structures located in the Leroy, Sandyville, Brohard, Munday, and Creston zip code areas.

They are currently working on 911 addresses for the Palestine, Reedy & Spencer areas. The remaining zip codes, yet to be addressed, are Rockport and Elizabeth.
