CALHOUN-GILMER LONG DISTANCE DECISION LOOMING - "The Matter Is Before The FCC"

A decision is pending about lifting the long distance phone charges between Calhoun and Gilmer counties. Bob Teets, Public Information Director of the West Virginia Public Service Commission said "The matter is before the Federal Communications Commission. We do not know when they will act."

There has been a two year movement to eliminate toll charges between the neighboring counties. The Calhoun Commission formally requested the reduction before the FCC after Gilmer County resident Buck White started a petition drive.

After several hearings requesting the action, it was sent to the FCC. It is likely the tolls will be removed, allowing the Calhoun-Gilmer communities to be better linked.
