The Calhoun Board of Education unanimously approved the expulsion of four Calhoun school students this week.

All students hearings were closed.

Two of the students, according to the official minutes, were expelled for drug related reasons, while the other two students were reportedly expelled for violating the school system's safety policies, indicating the students likely placed other students at risk related to their behavior or by displaying unsafe implements that could cause harm.

Superintendent Jane Lynch, recommended that a student be expelled until the end of the school year, with the recommendation that the student could return to school at the beginning of the second semester, if the student submits to and passes drug testing at the parents' expense.

The expulsion also says if that student attends the Evening Alternative Learning Center program, the remainder of school year will be used to make up credits toward coursework.

Superintendent Lynch recommended a second student be expelled for 12 months. That student will be eligible for the Evening Alternative Learning Center Program.

A third student was expelled until the end of the school year, with the recommendation that the student may return to school at the beginning of the second semester, if the student submits and passes drug testing at the parents' expense.

That student will be eligible to attend the Evening Alternative Learning Center Program.

Lynch recommended that a fourth student be expelled for 45 days. That student will be eligible to attend the Evening Alternative Learning Center Program.

The next regular board meeting will be November 10.
