WIRT SENIORS WILL GET SOME EXTRA HELP

(10/25/2008)
A grant given to the Center for Excellence in Disabilities at West Virginia University and WVU Extension Services could help senior citizens in Wirt County and several other West Virginia counties.

The grant will help to fund "Taking Charge: Activating Senior Networks in Rural Appalachia," providing health promotion materials on arthritis, heart health, diabetes, being active, eating smart and fall prevention.

As a part of the program, seniors can receive free home assessments that evaluate safety hazards, accessibility issues and the need for assistive technology.

Seniors in Wirt County who are homeowners, over the age of 60 and need this assistance may call 800-841-8436 or e-mail takingcharge@hsc.wvu.edu for an application and more information.

Wirt is the only regional county in the program.
