GRANTSVILLE MAN CLEARED FOR ALLEGEDLY SHOOTING AT NEWSPAPER CARRIER - Christopher Todd Smith Enters Plea Agreement In Drug Possession Case

(10/21/2008)
Grantsville resident Christopher Todd Smith has been cleared of charges filed against him for allegedly shooting a BB gun at a Charleston Gazette newspaper carrier last year.

Smith had been charged with two counts of assault, two counts of unlawful shooting at another person and destruction of property. He was found not guilty on all counts.

Smith had been charged following a complaint issued by Gazette carrier Charlie Adams.

During the hearing, problems surfaced related to the alleged victim's testimony, which appeared to be inconsistent with prior statements.

Smith appeared in Calhoun Circuit Court yesterday, entering into a plea agreement with the state related to allegedly possessing a gallon bag of marijuana.

The terms and conditions have yet to be learned.

Smith had been charged with the possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver or manufacture by Chief Charles Stephens of the Grantsville Police Department.

Authorities obtained a search warrant for Smith's residence on October 5th, 2007. Chief Stephens and Cpl. Jeff Hunt "located a gallon-size bag of marijuana in a dresser drawer," according to court records.

Police say they found several other drug-related items, including a plastic bag of marijuana in an aluminum case and a green Tupperware container with marijuana seeds labeled 9/17/07.
