SAMPSON, GERWIG MAKE FIRST TEAM ALL-LKC

Calhoun placed five runners on the All-Little Kanawha Conference cross country meet Thursday at St. Marys.

Anna Sampson and Justin Gerwig made first team All-LKC while Josh Parsons, Cai Clothier and Zach Hanshaw all were second team members.

Overall Calhoun finished fifth in the boys race and sixth in the girls race.

Sampson, a senior, was the highest placer in the event with a ninth place finish with a time of 22:16. She was all-LKC last year and advanced to the state tournament after placing high enough in the regional meet.

She has been a cross country runner since the eighth grade.

Gerwig, a junior in his first year of competitive running, finished 12th with a time of 18:25. The top 12 runners make the all-LKC First Team.

Three of Gerwig's teammates also grabbed all-LKC honors.

Senior Parsons had his best time of the year with a 19:21 while coming in 16th.

Clothier, a junior, was next for the Red Devils with a time of 19:26 which was good for 18th place. Hanshaw, a sophomore, took 19th place with a time of 19:30.

The Red Devils return to action Thursday in the Class AA-A Region IV meet at Camp Virgil Tait near Sissonville. The Class AAA Region III meet will be held at that location the same day pushing the start of the Class AA-A meet up to early afternoon. The girls division will start at 2 p.m. while the boys division will be held at 2:45 p.m.
