SCHOOLS DONATE TO NEW LKACF SCHOLARSHIP

(09/24/2008)
Calhoun County Schools and Wirt County Schools have both agreed to donate a portion of gate proceeds to the new scholarship fund for the Little Kanawha Area Community Foundation (LKACF).

The portion of the gate proceeds will come from every sporting event that Calhoun County High School and Wirt County High School play each other.

These donations will go toward meeting the challenge grant from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation to help seed the scholarship fund.

Dan Metz, Wirt County Superintendent, said "Wirt County Schools is proud to be a part of the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation challenge for the Little Kanawha Area Community Foundation Scholarship."

"Wirt County Schools is pleased to partner with Calhoun County Schools to provide scholarships for our students. This is a fun way to raise funds for the mutual benefit of the students in both counties."

The scholarship fund will be a general purpose scholarship fund to help support students from Calhoun County and Wirt County in pursuing their higher educational goals.

To successfully complete the challenge grant, the Board of LKACF must raise $15,000 from donors who care about students in Calhoun County and Wirt County.

When the challenge is successfully completed, the Benedum Foundation will match it with $5,000, which can be immediately spent out in the spring of 2009 as scholarships.

The deadline for this challenge is December 31st, 2008.

"The scholarship fund will provide a great opportunity for our students," said Jane Lynch, Calhoun County Superintendent.

"Calhoun County is excited to work with Wirt County in raising the funds necessary to meet the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation challenge.

In our expanding world, it provides a wonderful opportunity for our students to work with our neighbors to benefit students in both county school systems."

"We are very excited to have the support of both Calhoun and Wirt County Schools," said Sarah Holt, LKACF Representative. "They believe that this new scholarship fund is important for their students, and will give them an extra opportunity to pursue whatever higher educational goals they may have.

The Board of LKACF is excited to have yet another resource that will benefit the students of Calhoun and Wirt Counties for generations to come."

LKACF was established in 2004 by local citizens, and serves Calhoun and Wirt Counties. LKACF is an affiliate of the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (PACF), and works to build permanent funds that will support charitable causes forever. Due to the affiliation with PACF, LKACF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Anyone can donate to this challenge to establish the new LKACF Scholarship Fund, and any size donation is greatly appreciated. All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Donations can be sent to Benedum Foundation - LKACF Scholarship Challenge, LKACF, P.O. Box 944, Elizabeth, WV 26143.
