CALHOUN FIBER-OPTIC CABLE CUT - Telephone/Internet Services Being Restored

(09/23/2008)
A county-wide telephone outage struck about 5 p.m. yesterday, leaving most county residents without phone or Internet services.

The 354 exchange could call parties on the exchange, but could not call long distance or receive Internet service.

The 655 exchange was totally down, unable to make any local calls, access the Internet or 911.

The Herald, using a cell phone, called Frontier at 10 p.m. to find out about the problem, leaving a message with the public relations person.

Karen Miller, an information person for Frontier said Tuesday morning a fiber optic cable was cut about two miles from Grantsville, disrupting service for about 3,750 customers.

Calhoun's 911 Center called another county by radio to alert the phone company about the problem.

Service was being restored to most of the county Tuesday morning.
