FIVE SCHOOL POLICIES OUT FOR PUBLIC COMMENT

Five policies are still open for public comment that are scheduled to be approved by the Calhoun Board of Education. It is unclear what changes are being proposed to the policies, which are posted on the county system's web site. The board did approve proposed changes to policies related to Valedictorian and Salutatorian. The policies still under review include, Work-Based Learning; Bullying, Harassment and Intimidation; Racial, Sexual, Religious/Ethnic Harassment; Violence and Hazing; Grading' and Graduation Requirements. Following an executive session, the board tabled the posting of two elementary teachers at Pleasant Hill School. They did approve the posting of an after-school elementary math teacher at Pleasant Hill School. The board unanimously approved the hiring of David Derby - Reading Mentor Teacher - PHE (Effective 09/12/08). Approved After-School Heads-Up Instructors - CMHS (Effective 9/22/08): Leah Offutt; Melba Jean Miller; Melissa Jones; Amy Fitzwater; Brandi Richards and Ernest Tingler. Also After-School Heads Up Instructors - PHE (Effective 9/22/08): Scott Golinsky, John Bugby. After-School Heads Up Instructors - AES (Effective 9/22/08): Charles Thomas, Janice Westfall, Scottie Westfall. After-School Elementary Lead Teacher - PHE (Effective 9/22/08): Kristie Ritchie. After-School Secondary Tutor Teachers - CMHS (Effective 9/22/08): Terry Jones, Brandi Richards. 7. After-School Elementary Math Teacher - PHE (Effective 9/22/08): Amy Jacobs. The next board is scheduled for October 13, 2008.
