(08/23/2008)
LAND DISPUTE ENDS IN MURDER -It happened during a drive to work in Lincoln County about 8 a.m. on Big Creek Road, not far from Hamlin.

The shooting was apparently over a land dispute.

One man was shot and killed, and another is in critical condition at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington.

Ronnie Wade, Jr. was shot in the chest, but survived. The other victim, Stevie Linville, died.

Family and friends told WSAZ-TV a dispute had been brewing.

They said the suspect Stephen Willis had been having problems with Stevie Linville, who is his nephew.

They indicated Willis had deeded a few acres of land to Linville and then changed his mind.

"From what we gather, this has been going on for years," said State Police Trooper S.L. Bartram, with officers being called Thursday night regarding a dispute.

Willis is now charged with murder and malicious wounding.

Wade remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
