There will be no services Sunday, August 24 at the Burning Springs Methodist Church as there will be services and a picnic at shelter #2 at North Bend State Park starting at 11 A. M. Rev. Carlos Nutter filled his regular appointment on Sunday.

The Creston Community auctions will resume on Saturday, September 6.

Second District Congresswoman Shelly Moore Capito toured the Oil and Gas Museum Park at Burning Springs which is the site of the historic Rathbone oil well. David McKain gave a talk on the history of the local oil business and how it was responsible for the formation of West Virginia during the Civil War. Ohio :Oil Gathering had two representatives present and they explained the upgrades of their Brooksville and Cairo terminals used to haul locally produced petroleum. They noted that capacity had been tripled. Local folks included all three Wirt County Commissioners and some civic leaders. Local House of Delegates member Larry Border, along with his father, was present as was a representative of the McDonough Foundation. After the tour and a special treat, hot dogs cooked on natural gas from the Rathbone well, Congresswoman Capito toured production facilities on the dePue farm at Creston.

Cabot Oil & Gas is contemplating replacing some gas line at Creston.

Nancy Engelke and daughter Jane are attending market in Atlanta.

Anna Engelke, Adam Yates & Keith Collins went sky diving at Orange Virginia. Afterwards Anna & Adam motored to Charlottesville where they "hung out" with Joel Hartshorn and then later attended a Smashing Pumpkins concert.

P. E. Graham's chariot is at a Palestine repair shop after the rear end went out. P. E. was calling on Charles & Euell Russell. Brother Mike came up and took him to the store so he wouldn't run out of groceries.

Charles Russell was consulting his podiatrist in Spencer. Earlier both he and Euell was consulting with Dr. Matthews in Grantsville.

The David Bowen family sang out at the Pine Alley Church.

Molly Simms of Dudley Shoals, North Carolina, Rebecca and Todd Rhodes were calling in Creston.

Don Rhodes who had a stroke and is now walking with a walker reported that he is getting strength back in his hand but that his foot "still feels like a boxcar hanging on his leg".

Kathy Parksons, Gary & Alvie Ferrell were among those calling on "Jiggs" Sidwell.

Mr. & Mrs. Carl Ferrell helped move Melissa Ferrell.

Lula Lorraine Marks Myers, age 60, passed away. She was a daughter of the late Ernie Marks of Lemuel's Run, a sister of Gordie Marks and an aunt of Grace Kiefabber.

Area residents, and those elsewhere too, for that matter, are reminded that farm use reports are due to be turned in before the end of the month.

The invasion of the nation of Georgia by Putin, the KGB (secret police) man's Russian Army and the threat to use nuclear bombs on Poland should be a wake up call as to the real nature of the world. The Russian news media advised residents there that the "incident" in Georgia was a plot by Dick Cheney to stop Obama.

Those who watched the games in Peking China, and especially the opening, saw a chilling demonstration of the elimination of the individual for the "good of the state". Those who want "change & socialism" should take note of the demonstrated end result. Also it was noted that hotel rooms were bugged and spying was at it highest level.

The wealthy trial lawyer commonly known as the Silky Pony continues to make the news after a National Enquirer, a paper closely associated with the Clinton family, report was confirmed. When campaigning for president he always talked about "two Americas". When it was learned that he, or someone on his behalf, was paying his mistress $15,000/month he made it clear, if there had ever been any doubt, that he was in the "other group" as no one around Creston would consider paying a mistress that kind of money even if she did provide him with a child.

A number of local residents participated in the blood drive at the Brooksville Baptist Church for Rusty Jones. A Bloodmobile from Pittsburgh was on hand for the event. Calhoun County outdid Ritchie in the blood drive and Rusty is now back home.

The price of local Penn grade crude oil fell to $107/bbl and gasolene in Parkersburg could be purchased for less than $3.60/gallon. Reports indicated that in Texas gasolene was selling for under $3/gallon.

Abstractors continue to seek leaseholds in Wirt County and drilling continues across the state with regular wells, directional wells and horizontal wells being permitted.

Elderberries are now ripening and many apple trees are loaded. While food is plentiful there are those who have honed their stories of woe, lack of food, money, etc. Of course these folks don't plant gardens, can or preserve food &, all to often, consider work beneath them.

Bessie Arthur and Blanch Stutler attended the Fluharty reunion which was held at Sportsman's Park in Elizabeth.
