GRANTSVILLE WOMEN GET THREE YEARS PROBATION - Check Cashing Problems

(12/01/2001)
A check worth more than $4,000 mailed to a business in Calhoun, Georgia has gotten two Grantsville women in lots of trouble. Court records show that Christina D. Blake and Joyce M. LaMont, both 25, attempted to cash the check at the First National Bank of Spencer, after it was delivered to a post office box in Grantsville.

The women went to the bank drive-thru window to collect the cash, but drove away after a suspicious cashier starting asking questions.

Judge David Nibert placed both women on probation and ordered them to pay restitution of $25 to the Chamblee Meat Supply Company, who was to have received the check. Their three years of probation includes 36 days of community service, plus additional days for removing litter from the highways.
