Russell R. "Russ" Tanner 63 - Ivydale

Russell R. "Russ" Tanner 63, of Ivydale, West Virginia, departed this life on August 2, 2008 at his home following an extended illness. He was born January 21, 1945 at Nebo.

He was a devout Christian and member of the Nebo Baptist Church. Russ sang with the Tanner Boys Quartet for many years and lived his life for his savior, Jesus Christ. He also loved to camp, spending a great deal of time at William's River where he made many friends over the years. Whether camping, hunting, or working on his farm, he loved to spend time outdoors. He was retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways with 24 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy; daughter, Annette Wilson and her husband Danny; son, Michael Tanner and his wife Karen and their son Gregory; grandson, Russell Wallace; granddaughter, Jessica Wilson; mother, Gertrude Tanner Ramsey; bothers, Dewey (Janet) Tanner, Carmel (Deloris) Tanner; sisters, Wanda (Walter) Watkins, and Carol (Gene) Copen.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Sue Tanner; a brother, Dana Tanner; and his father Andy Tanner.

He will be lovingly remembered for his devotion to church, family, and friends. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, son, and friend and will be missed dearly by all who were blessed to know him.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, August 4, 2008 at the Nebo Baptist Church, Nebo, with Rev. Darius Arnold officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the church one hour before the time of service.
