WV WORKERS LOSE TELEMARKETING JOBS

(07/26/2008)
Layoffs at a Parkersburg telemarketing company and the shutdown of a call center in South Charleston have left 190 West Virginia workers out of jobs.

New Jersey based, DialAmerica Marketing closed its South Charleston office this week. The company told 160 employees Monday that the office would be closing Tuesday.

Thirty more workers have been laid off from 1-2-1 Direct Response in Parkersburg.

The Philadelphia based company blames a downturn in the economy for the layoffs, but says workers might be rehired in the fall.

Company president, Stuart Discount says the layoffs were made in Parkersburg because it's easier to rehire there than in the smaller town of Weston, where Direct Response also has an office.

Discount says there are no plans to pull out of Parkersburg.
