CHLOE MAN CHARGED WITH ARSON

Jackie Lee McCumbers, 51 of Chloe was arrested Wednesday on felony arson and false pretenses charges. According to a criminal complaint filed by Calhoun Deputy Sheriff, J.D. Smith, McCumbers contacted authorities, saying he wished to confess to crimes he had committed. The complaint says McCumbers informed the deputy that on or about January 14, 2008 he set fire to a dwelling that contained insured property. The dwelling located between Nicut and Walnut Road is reportedly owned by Russell McCumbers. Jackie McCumbers received approximately $5,000 from insurance for property loss. Additionally McCumbers told the deputy that on or about June 27, 2008 he intentionally allowed his 2001 Chevy S-10 pick-up to roll over an embankment, totaling the vehicle. McCumbers turned the incident into his insurance company for the purpose of obtaining $9,900 as settlement. McCumbers is being held in Central Regional Jail. Bond is set at $15,000.
