Belva L. Reed, 75 - Normantown

Belva L. Reed, 75, of Normantown, West Virginia, departed this life at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at the home of her daughter, Gaylene Hacker, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born October 2, 1932 in Gilmer County Mrs. Reed was a daughter of the late Aubrey and Opal Hartley Jones.

Belva retired in 1995 from the Gilmer County Board of Education as a cook with 22 years service. Her life revolved around helping others and being with her family and friends.

She was united in marriage on April 14, 1952 to Robert L. Reed, whom preceded her in death August 16, 1995.

She is survived by five children and their spouses, daughters, Debbie Nagy and Paul of Glenville WV, Gaylene Hacker and and Dale Jr. of Cedarville WV, and Jennifer Allen and Gary of Normantown; sons, Robert Reed, Jr. and Norma of Normantown, and Layne Reed and Barb of Glenmont, Ohio.

Also surviving are her grandchildren, Tracie Reed and Paul Nagy III; step grandchildren, Jamie Allen and Erikka Steel; one great granddaughter, Harlee McHenry; and special friend, George Sponaugle.

In addition to her parents and husband Belva was preceded in death by five brothers, Donald, Denzil, Darrell, Raymond and Ronald Jones; and one sister, Boneva Jones. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was a member of Copen Independent Baptist Church, which she loved to attend and be with her extended church family.

Services will be 12-noon Monday, July 21, at Upper Steer Run Baptist Church, Normantown, with pastors Delmas Singleton and Brian Groves officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation with the Reed family will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, is in charge of the arrangements.
