HEARING SET FRIDAY IN ATTEMPTED MURDER CASE

(07/17/2008)
A preliminary hearing for Jimmy Ray Hall is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday before Calhoun Magistrate Richard Postalwait.

Hall (pictured left) is charged with attempted murder, wanton endangerment and malicious assault, stemming from a shooting incident early Monday morning on Pine Creek Road, Calhoun County.

State Police spokesman Sgt. Kenneth McCord said Sgt. J.E. Skidmore and Cpl. J.B. Hunt, of the Grantsville State Police Detachment, responded to a home on Pine Creek Road owned by Ronald McNeil, 46.

Sgt. McCord said Hall, 49, became involved in an argument with McNeil and his girlfriend, Laurell Alexander, in the residence where the men are reported to be roommates.

Hall allegedly used a .22 caliber rifle to shoot McNeil in the knee. Police said Hall then chased Alexander through the house and attempted to shoot her in the head, but the rifle failed to fire.

McNeil returned fire on Hall with a .357 handgun, firing at least five times. Police said Hall was not hit by any of the shots.

Reports said Hall fled the scene and was hiding at a nearby vacant residence. Hall reportedly walked into the road with his hands up when state police approached the scene. He was arrested and subsequently arraigned by Calhoun Magistrate Teresa Robinson.

Hall is currently lodged in Central Regional Jail, bond is set at $100,000.

McNeil was transported by Calhoun EMS to Minnie Hamilton Health System in Grantsville and later transported to Charleston General Hospital.

Police said the investigation is continuing and more charges are pending, after 14 marijuana plants were found being cultivated at the residence.
