Billy Bradford Jack, 71 - Sutton

Billy Bradford Jack, 71, of Sutton passed away Sunday, July 13, 2008, in Braxton County Memorial Hospital following a 10-month battle with lung cancer.

Billy was born April 3, 1937, in Weston and was the son of the late Louis Bradford and Beatrice Elizabeth Jamison Jack, formerly of Exchange. Preceding him in death were sisters, Elizabeth and Francis Goldsmith Appleton; and a sister-in-law, Mary Dennison Jack.

Billy graduated from Gassaway High School in 1957 and attended Glenville State College. Billy received the Lord as his Savior and was a Protestant by faith.

A staunch Braxton County Democrat, Billy was elected and served as a Braxton County Assessor for28 years. While in office, Billy served as president of the West Virginia Assessors Association and on the West Virginia Assessors Board of Directors. He was also named West Virginia Assessor of the Year by his peers. Billy served as co-chairman of the Braxton County Democratic Executive Committee and was honored as Braxton County Democrat of the Year. Billy was recently honored by West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin III as Distinguished Mountaineer. He also received a Certificate of Recognition from Gov. Manchin for outstanding service and volunteerism. He was president of the Braxton County Coon Hunters Club, was a charter member of the Braxton County Jaycees and a member of the Sutton Odd Fellows Lodge.

Surviving Billy is his wife, Nadean Wiley Jack, whom he married on Dec. 25, 1958. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Benjie Cruickshanks of GassawayCandace and Mark Smyth of Clarksburg, Cheri and Rick Sergent of Stafford, Va., and Cheryl Currence of Sutton; and a brother, Robert Lee Jack of Morgantown. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Jeremy, Jordan, Dustin, Adam, Brodie and Bailey Elizabeth. Billy also leaves behind a special great-granddaughter, Kilee Addison Grub. Surviving also are several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, at Sutton Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Sisson and the Rev. Dana Friend officiating. Burial will be in Sutton Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway.
