When he heard that his lifelong friend and co-worker Timothy King was arriving home Sunday from Iraq, Justin Carter was on the phone gathering a welcoming committee.

Specialist Timothy King 821st Horizontal Engineers was excited to return home July 13 to his wife Elizabeth and son Daniel.

This was Specialist King's second tour in Iraq. He had been previously deployed there 2003-2004 with Company B of the 1092nd Engineers.

Tim, who resides at Mill Fork is employed with the Department of Highways in Gilmer County and is the son of Sherry King and brother to Zack King who is also in the service.

Friends and neighbors gathered at the Rosedale and Mill Fork intersection anxiously awaiting the arrival of Specialist King.

Members of the Gassaway Sons of the American Legion, Lucas Tanner and State Commander Roy Turner provided flags for the event. The Rosedale Community Neighborhood Watch and Citizen Corps Council provided cold soft drinks to waiting family and friends.

When asked if there was any comments, someone in the crowd stated, "It truly is a wonderful day to be able to welcome Tim home but also to remember and show honor to all the men and women fighting in foreign lands because Freedom is not free. The children here today displaying these flags will remember this day and feel pride in knowing they were a part of welcoming a soldier home."
